\r\nNATIONAL FRENCH WEEK
\r\n\r\n
The Arts were chosen as a theme for National French week because of the enduring principle that students learn by doing and that both French language and French-speaking cultures can be expressed by the practical arts as well as the performance arts. Paris was the cultural capital of the Western world for much of the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries, the home to revolutionary art-historical movements such as Neoclassicism, Impressionism, and Cubism. Each of these developments in artistic practice required a new vocabulary to describe it, and much of that language remains in our vocabulary today. The arts related to French language and French-speaking cultures comprise a wide range of artistic and performance expression, including art, visual arts, music and dance, theater, film, literature, as well as artistic expression in new and evolving technologies.
\r\nSpoiler alert! In celebration of Thursday’s French theme, food, there will be a French breakfast tomorrow morning in room 214 beginning at 7 AM. In exchange for your willingness to speak/learn a little French, we invite you to join us for some croissants and hot chocolate.
\r\n\r\n
