MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS
\r\n3/28/22
\r\n\r\n
Attention students of the middle-senior High School - If you have been following the news out of Ukraine you know there are some 3 million refugees that have fled the country in response to Russia’s invasion. This number is expected to rise up to 5 million and has already created a serious Humanitarian crisis.
\r\nThe majority of refugees fleeing Ukraine for neighboring countries are women and children. Many of those displaced individuals are fleeing to Poland, which is home to the region’s largest Ukrainian community and is the easiest EU country to reach from Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv.
\r\nMost have been forced to leave the majority of their possessions behind as they seek safety from the conflict. With the overwhelming traffic of people fleeing Ukraine, immediate relief is needed on the ground to support Ukrainian refugees, from hygiene kits and thermal blankets, to emergency cash assistance to help families resettle away from their homes.
\r\nThe Global Citizens Club is looking for your help! Starting Thursday representatives from the club will be coming around during powerblock to collect donations to CORE - the Community Organized Relief Effort\r\nCORE is a relief organization that is on the ground in Poland and Romania working with international and local partners to support the immediate needs of people fleeing war in Ukraine. Money donated to CORE allows them to focus on providing cash assistance to help families get access to life-saving items, such as food, water, and safe transit to shelter.\r\n Monetary donations also allow them to continue distributing hygiene kits with soap, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes, and other essential hygiene items, as well as emergency thermal blankets to keep refugees warm amid freezing temperatures. \r\nFor more information check out the poster in the Orange Commons!\r\nLook for Members of the Global Citizen coming by at powerblock to collect money. The money Global Citizens collects will go directly toCORE to support Ukrainian refugees. Being a WB citizen means being a global citizen, please consider helping support those impacted by this crisis in whatever way you can, every donation matters!\r\n
