Did you know that April 2nd was World Autism Awareness  Day and in America, all of April is National Autism Awareness Month? As a way of raising awareness and developing  understanding about the autistic community, Inclusion Matters is boosting school spirit and sharing information about this very  common diagnosis throughout the week. Autism is officially called Autism Spectrum Disorder or some people may just refer to  it as ASD or simply “being autistic”. So what is a “spectrum disorder?” This means that autistic individuals can have a wide  range, or “a spectrum,” of symptoms, skills, and levels of disability. In a nutshell, spectrum means that some people are mildly  impacted by their symptoms, while others may be severely disabled. Really, it's just like anyone who has strengths and  weaknesses. We’re kicking off the week with Magnificent Mind Monday by wearing hats in celebration of our neurological  differences. Today’s notable neurodivergent is billionaire Elon Musk. Mr. Musk is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, worth more  than $184 billion and guess what else? He’s also autistic! Hats off to magnificent minds! Your challenge today is to get out  there and give someone a compliment on their talent or strength. Don’t forget to show up tomorrow in rainbow or tie-dye to  celebrate neurodiversity!
