Ben skinner had an awesome dunk, Brady Roderick was draining 3 pointers and Dylan Leonard was attacking the hoop and finishing strong. Zachary Bellody and Tommy Sheedy also played well for WB.

February is Black History Month. To celebrate our nation's diversity, every Friday this month, we’ll profile one African American hero and their story.

<CUT TO BRYANNA>

François Toussaint L'Ouverture was the leader of the Haitian Revolution,  a former slave from Santo Domingo (the Haitian part of the island, which was owned by France). He led the only successful slave revolt in modern history. Standing steadfastly, he fought to end slavery and gain Haiti’s independence from European powers, France and Spain. Forming an army of former slaves and deserters from the French and Spanish armies, he trained his followers in guerrilla warfare and successfully ended slavery in Hispaniola (now the shared island of the Dominican Republic and Haiti) by 1795. Because of his efforts, the island of Hispaniola became the first country to be founded by former slaves. Toussaint L'Ouverture was a symbol of change across the world, and encouraged many, including those in the United Sates, to question the morality of slavery.

The West Bridgewater Debate Team participated in rounds 7 and 8 of the debate season this past wednesday. It proved to be two tough rounds for the team. Round 7 saw Jillian Cockcroft and Kate Remy take an easy win, while the other teams fought hard but were unable to repeat their winning ways from rounds 5 and 6. Despite this Gina Valante, Kaytlyn Lockwood, Chris Nenopoulos and Elise Puliafico are commended on their high speaker points in the round.

Round 8 saw an easy win by Gina Valante and Kaytlyn Lockwood, while Jillian Cockcroft and Kate Remy made it two in a row with a well debated round - Jillian getting the win with a blistering rebuttal that earned her 26 speaker points! Additionally, Paige McGettrick and Dharlenny Soto are commended for their high speaker points in the round despite missing the W.

Special Thanks to Mr. Corbett and Ms. Pistorino for taking the time to serve as judges. The team looks to end the season with some W’s on Feb 24 for the final round of the season
