Enviro-Minute
<Intro jingle and footprint background>
Emma: An ecological footprint is a handy way to measure the impact of a person or community on the environment, expressed as the amount of land required to sustain their use of natural resources. The more resources you consume, the greater your impact on the environment. Generally, we want to REDUCE our impact, in order to leave Earth in a less disturbed state. Resources can include the amount of water we use, oil we burn, and electricity we use. These all contribute to your ecological footprint.
Natalie: That’s right Emma! Many other factors go into your eco foot print as well, such as the amount and type of food you eat, how much you drive, how many people live in your home, and even what products you buy. To reduce your footprint you can stop using single use plastics, switch to renewable energy like solar panels, drive less, or even reduce your consumption of meat. Even if your actions are small we can all do our part to reduce our ecological footprints.
