Ruth Bader Ginsburg was born on March 15, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to Jewish parents Nathan and Celia Bader. From an early age Ruth had a love for learning and after graduating High School, she attended Cornell University. She would graduate in 1954 with a Bachelor's degree with high honors in Government and all of her other subjects. That same year, she married Martin D. Ginsburg and the couple would have two children. After graduating from Cornell, she attended Harvard Law School and she was one of only nine women out of 500 people in her class. Ginsburg would often face discrimination was often asked how she felt about taking a spot from a man in the program. She then transferred to Columbia University for her final year and graduated at the top of her class in 1959 with her law degree. Ginsburg landed a position as a Law Clerk that same year and served in office until 1961. Two years later she taught classes at Rutgers University School of Law until 1972 and became the first woman hired to receive tenure. She was nominated as a supreme court justice in 1993 by former president Bill Clinton after serving 13 years for the United States Court of Appeals. She took her seat as a supreme court justice on August 10, 1993. She became the second woman and first Jewish woman to serve on the supreme court. During her time in the supreme court she fought for gender equality rights and worked with former president Barack OBama Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to combat pay disparities between men and women. Sadly on September 18, 2020, Ruth Bader Ginsburg died at the age 87 of cancer. She was called R.B.G by her supporters and inspired generations of women and broke gender barriers.
