MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS
\r\n2/2/2023
\r\nWell, here we are everyone: the coldest time of the year. Typically, late January through early February has the year’s lowest temperatures. By the time we get into late February and into early March, temps. are on the rise, some resident animals are beginning their mating season, and migratory birds are getting themselves ready for the return home.
\r\nBut why is late January the coldest? Aren’t the days actually getting longer now? The reason January is colder than December, even though we’re getting more sunlight, is that the Earth changes temperature slowly. Land, and especially the ocean, can take a long time to heat up or cool down. So in December the land is still holding onto some heat it absorbed during the summer and fall. Much of that is gone by late January, and even though we’re getting more light now, it takes the Earth a while to catch up and start warming. Speaking of which, time for me to run to my first block class: I heard today’s lesson is a scorcher! I’m Hassan, and that’s an Environmental Minute!
\r\nThere will be Yearbook club photos taken on the Google stairs right after the power-block freeze. Today is Photo Club, Debate, Minecraft Club, Math Club. Tomorrow is Global Citizens, Model United Nations, and Video Club. And finally on Monday Spanish Honor Society, Tri-M Honor Society, NHS, and Financial Club. Please email Kaytlyn Lockwood with any questions.
