\r\nDylan: Hi everyone, so obviously we’re both big fans of the environment, but we also really love chemistry! And there is a lot of chemistry that happens in the environment! For example, did you know that regular rain is slightly acidic? That’s because as raindrops fall, they combine with the carbon dioxide naturally existing in the air to form a weak acid called “carbonic acid”. So the pH of rain is about 5.6, making it a weak acid!
\r\nJulius: Hey, speaking of carbon dioxide... You’ve heard of climate change, right? Climate change is mostly caused by burning fossil fuels like gasoline or coal. All fossil fuels contain carbon, and when we burn them, it produces carbon dioxide. It’s a special type of gas called a “greenhouse gas” that is really good at trapping heat on our planet. So more carbon dioxide in the air means a hotter planet.
\r\nDylan: Ok, that’s gonna do it for us. We’re Dylan and Julius, and that’s an Environmental Minute!
\r\nThe WBYAA Field Day will be held on Saturday, April 29th and they are looking for about 25 volunteers to assist them. They are looking for student volunteers who can help with raffles, the snack shack, and clean up. They are looking for a student who would like to be the wildcat mascot to march in the parade. Lastly, they are looking for someone to sing the National Anthem or a band performance.
